OBJECTIVES

In today’s competitive world, an efficient and effective supply chain is a necessity for staying competitive in the market. Nevertheless, supply chain management in India is still in its infancy. Managing supply chain is a complex job as it includes and affects the entire business activities of an organisation and its business partners. Understanding the dynamics and complexity of the supply chain is quite challenging and a prerequisite for any supply chain endeavour. The objective of this programme is to understand the finer aspects of the supply chain management that can turnaround an organisation and can take it to the position of a leader. The programme also aims to learn from the various successes and failures in making an efficient and effective supply chain and deliver value to the customer. The programme will also facilitate interaction and sharing of experience between the participants.

WHO CAN ATTEND?

The programme is open to middle and senior level executives in the materials, planning, manufacturing, marketing, sourcing, third-party logistics provider, supply chain, outsourcing and information technology. Organisations, that want to leverage their supply chain practices as a competitive weapon will benefit from the programme. Organisations that are in a major supply chain restructuring mode will also benefit by sending multiple participants to the programme.

PEDAGOGY

The four day programme consists of classroom discussions, individual and group exercises, and case studies. The programme will cover various analytical and innovative tools used for supply chain improvement. The programme will also focus on how Information Technology can be leveraged for achieving supply chain goals. Case studies will focus on supply chain best practices and learning from the successes and the failures of efforts by organisations towards achieving an efficient and effective supply chain.

APPLICATION & COURSE FEE

The programme is non-residential. The fee for the programme is Rupees 25,000 per participant. The programme fee is payable at Kharagpur by cheque/draft favouring CEP-STC, IIT Kharagpur. The filled-in application form along with thye draft should reach Prof. Ashutosh Sarkar on or before December 1, 2009. Participants requiring residential facilities may contact the programme coordinators. All efforts will be made to facilitate residential accommodation near the programme venue. The fee covers study material, hand-outs, lunch and tea.

RESOURCE PERSONS

Tapan P. Bagchi, VGSOM
B.Tech. (IIT Kanpur), MS, PhD (Toronto)

He has been the Director at NDS InfoServ, National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Mumbai, Dean of S.P. Jain Centre of Management, Dubai, Head of Operations Management & Chair at S.P Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai, and Chair of Industrial & Management Engineering at IIT Kanpur and Professor at IIT Kanpur. He served Exxon Mobil Corporation for 16 years and was recipient of Exxon’s Extraordinary Contributions Award. He has authored 6 textbooks and over 75 technical papers.

Ranjan Ghosh, VGSOM
B.Tech. (IIT KGP), MS (Stanford), MS, DSc (Columbia)

Ranjan Ghosh has served at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta for 29 years and at IIM Bangalore for few years. Dr. Ghosh served as member, Board of Governors for two terms and Director-in-Charge for a short stint held many administrative positions, including Membership of the Board of Governors for two terms and Director-In-Charge for a short stint. While in U.S.A, he worked for three years with IBM and Communication Satellite Corporation. He has been on research and teaching assignments to Columbia University, Cornell University and the University of Iowa in U.S.A, and Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand.

Prithwis Mukerjee, VGSOM
B. Tech. (IIT Kharagpur), MS, PhD (Texas)

Prithwis Mukerjee had worked in senior positions with Tata Steel, Tata IBM (TISL), PricewaterhouseCoopers and IBM India. He worked as software and business consultant to many organisations in India and abroad. He has also published two books titled, ‘Business Information System’ and ‘The Road to Singularity’.

Ashutosh Sarkar, VGSOM
B.E. (Gauhati), M.Tech., PhD (IIT Kharagpur)

Ashutosh Sarkar has taught courses on Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Operations Research and Industrial Management. Dr. Sarkar was also selected for the prestigious BOYSCAST Fellowship (2008-2009) by Department of Science & Technology, Government of India.

Janat Shah, IIM Bangalore
B.Tech. (IIT Bombay), FPM (IIM Ahmedabad)

Professor Janat Shah has taught courses on Operations Management, and Supply Chain Management. Prof. Shah was a Visiting Scholar at the Sloan School of Management, MIT and Visiting Faculty at The Logistic Institute at National University, Singapore. Prof. Shah served as consultant for companies like, Tata Chemicals, Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Infosys, Marico Industries, Tata Teleservices, IBM, Aditya Birla Group, Yokogawa Blue Star, and Ingersoil Rand.

Gautam Sinha, Professor, VGSOM
B.Tech. (BIT Sindri), M. Tech. (ISM), PhD (IIT Kharagpur)

Prof. Sinha has worked for nearly 25 years in the steel and engineering industry. Prof. Sinha was trained as TQM Trainer by Institute for Resource Development, Columbia, USA in 1991 and received his ISO Lead Assessor Certificate from BSIQA, UK. He has co-authored one book in Management Research.

Arabinda Tripahy, VGSOM
B.Tech. (IIT KGP), PGDM (XLRI), M.Sc., PhD (LSE, London)

Prof. Tripathy has earlier served as Professor at IIM Ahmedabad and in the industry in different capacities. Prof. Tripathy has published several research papers in different national and international referred journals and has conducted management development programmes in various countries in South Africa, Far East, Middle East, C.I.S. Countries and Africa. Prof. Tripathy is recipient of Developing Countries Award of IFORS and EFMD fellowship of London Business School. He is on the boards of different public and private sector companies.

Resource person with experience in Supply Chain Management are likely to be invited to share their experience.
